Red Fox Healthy Living Society and Environmental Youth Alliance (EYA) have teamed up to bring like-minded youth between the ages of 15-18 together for unique volunteer experiences and opportunities starting March 31st, 2019 that will run until the end of March 2020. Over the course of the year, there will be 3 cohorts that will engage 14 youth over a 3 month period, engaging up to 42 youth in total.
The Garden Project will give youth hands-on experiences creating wildlife habitat and an Indigenous foodscape garden in Strathcona Park. They will volunteer as youth leaders at Red Fox Active Play, Feasting and Drum Group programs, helping local children be active, enjoy healthy meals and connect with Indigenous culture. The youth leaders will gain a certificate of completion for 120 Service Hours over the 3 month period.
Youth will get to design an Art installation for the garden, connect and learn from knowledge keepers and Elders from the community, and learn about decolonization and reconciliation. Each of the three cohorts will begin and end with an over-night urban camping orientation weekend and wilderness camping weekend.
We are excited to announce that our 3 cohorts will run from:
Cohort 1: March 31 – June 30, 2019
Cohort 2: July 6 – September 29, 2019
Cohort 3: October 6 – January 12, 2020
