Vancouver-Hastings Annual Food Drive

December 6, 2018

Many members of our community here in Vancouver-Hastings rely on food banks and other ways of getting by. We know that food banks are not the solution to poverty and that they can frame human rights like food through the lens of charity. It is for this reason that we are releasing a Poverty Reduction Strategy for BC. But because there are people going without right now, my office is gathering non-perishable food items from through December 21st. We’re open Monday to Friday (9 am to 4 pm) at 2365 East Hastings.

Most needed items include: canned fish or meats, canned legumes, 100% nut butters, brown rice, canned vegetables, pasta sauces, canned fruit (packed in its own juice or water), whole grain breakfast cereals, hearty soups, stews and chili.

I encourage those who are able to donate funds directly to the Vancouver Food Bank at the following link. Direct donations allow them to purchase at wholesale prices and fill the gaps in what is donated.
